Many
homeowners think that a Pressure Washer is the best deck cleaning
solution. Correct use of a Pressure Washer can be a very effective
way to clean, but improper use can cause significant damage
to your deck. Too much pressure can actually destroy the surface
of your deck. A pressure washer can also drive mildew spores
deep into the fiber of the wood.

you choose to rent or buy a Pressure Washer, be sure to select
a model that is not too powerful for the job. Test the pressure

a homemade cleaning solution, try mixing one gallon of water,
two cups of bleach and a cup of powdered soap. With a little
scrubbing, the soap solution will clean most dirt off your deck.
The bleach will kill any mold or mildew on the surface of the
deck. Be careful not to get the solution on any surface that
could be damaged by the bleach. You will also need to protect
any plants from being sprayed with the cleaning solution. |

like Thompson's Deck Wash offer a premixed solution of cleaner,
bleach and water. Like the homemade version above, this product
can be very effective for cleaning and killing mold and mildew.
Extra care is needed to protect other exterior surfaces, plants
and grass from potential damage from the bleach. |
